How to Make Air Fryer Falafel
Falafel is a delicious Middle Eastern delight that's often deep-fried, but using an air fryer lets you enjoy this crispy treat with considerably less oil. The result is healthier yet equally scrumptious falafel.
Ingredients:
- 1 can of chickpeas (400g), drained and rinsed
- 1 small onion, roughly chopped
- 2-3 cloves of garlic, minced
- A handful of fresh parsley and coriander
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2-3 tbsp plain flour (as needed)
- Olive oil spray
Instructions:
-
Prepare the Mixture: In a food processor, combine the drained chickpeas, chopped onion, garlic, fresh herbs, and spices. Blitz until a coarse mixture forms, ensuring to leave some texture.
-
Bind the Mixture: Add baking powder and season with salt and pepper. If the mixture feels too wet, add flour a tablespoon at a time until it holds together but is not sticky.
-
Shape the Falafel: Using your hands, form small balls or patties, about the size of a golf ball.
-
Air Fry: Preheat your air fryer to 180°C (350°F). Lightly spray the falafel with olive oil before placing them in the basket. Cook for around 12-15 minutes, turning halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy.
- Serve: Enjoy your air-fried falafel in pitta bread with fresh salad, tahini sauce, or simply on their own as a tasty snack!
This healthier version retains all the wonderful flavours and textures you love about traditional falafel, making it a perfect addition to your meal prep or a quick snack!
